Lois SummersI love to look back at my very first scrapbook! Many years ago, I planned a 10-day family gathering at my home so that my sister and I could celebrate all the holidays with our children. We lived too far apart to see each other more than once or twice a year. Each day, we decorated, planned and prepared for the next day’s Holiday celebration-Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day, Easter, Birthdays, and Christmas. The kids kept a journal (the teacher in me made me do it!) and I took so many pictures. I put it all together in an 8 1/2 X 11 notebook binder and I had my first scrapbook! What a rebel I was back then-cropping photos and cutting body silhouettes out of photos. Design wise-it won’t win any awards but I wouldn’t change it for anything! Many years later, my scrapbooks have evolved. It helped having artistic skills, a graphic design degree, and a husband who never limited my scrapbooking budget! The only thing I lacked was time. My professional career was long and varied but always included some form of visual arts....from Graphic Artist to Retail Advertising Manager to Elementary Classroom Teacher to Educational Marketing Manager and finally National Literacy Consultant for educational publishing. But my favorite occupation is right now...RETIRED and scrapbooking to my hearts content. http://scraptacularkits.wordpress.com
